I live in the countryside and at certain times I miss particular things about the big smoke. The influx of activity, new places to see and sample as well as just the variety of what is on offer. I visit London a lot and have my favourite spots to enjoy a coffee, a spot of sushi and a particular sandwich, which is why it’s always a comfort to find a place I love with equal fervour that is a little closer to home. The Castle Cottage Cafe in Oakham is one such place. Cafes are a dime a dozen, but this place has something special and I was lucky recently when I was asked by ‘Mrs Marketing’ to photograph it during a visit from Channel4’s Time Team.
Hidden away between the church and the castle with gardens that are wildly cultivated, cosy spots to sit in the shade, open decking to get a group together, well thought out decorative touches and a list of cakes that will make your mouth water…this local cafe should definitely be on your list of places to see.
